The Item Upgrader in World of Warcraft
The War Within introduced two gear upgrade currencies, Valorstones and Harbinger Crests. These currencies can be exchanged at the NPCs for upgrading items, Cuzolth and Vaskarn.
Each item can be upgraded to the highest level for a specific slot once. Then, upgrades to that slot will be less costly. The pity system, which was introduced with The War Within, also lowers the extreme upgrade variance.
Upgrades
Upgrades are components that improve performance or add new functionality. Upgrades can be purchased or earned in many ways like events in the game or cash shop items.
Upgrades are only available for specific items. As opposed to enchantments, which can be added to anything but upgrades are only available to the item they are attached to.
